The Essence Project
The Essence Project consists of a weekend retreat for undergraduate students designed to foster astrong sense of community, an opportunity to explore one’s personal identity, a platform to develop a stronger sense of belonging at Boston College, and a time to celebrate Black women on campus. In addition to the retreat, the project offers three large scale events throughout the academic year in November, February, and April.

Essence Project Learning Goals and Outcomes:
Students who participate in the weekend-long retreat will:
- Establish a sense of safety and as a result, be willing to explore challenges associated with one’s personal identity as well as the challenges those who identify as Black women face.
- Create a support network of peers and mentors by deepening connections through shared storytelling.
- Develop a strategy to successfully navigate their Boston College experience.
